LONGHOUSE SUBMISION GRAPPLING
RASH-GUARD DESIGN
The Longhouse submission grappling studio in Flint, Michigan, draws its branding from Norse mythological themes. For this rashguard design, the concept centers on Hugin and Munin, Odin's ravens of profound symbolic significance. Hugin represents 'memory' while Munin embodies 'thought'. These ravens were considered integral to Odin, acting as his eyes and ears in the world - venturing out to explore and returning to share their insights. In the background, the Vegvisir - a Norse navigational compass symbol - reinforces themes of guidance, direction, and spiritual wayfinding, creating a rich visual narrative that connects the mythological symbolism with the studio's identity.

Norse traditional tattoo designs offered a rich visual source of inspiration for the Longhouse rashguard, featuring powerful mythological motifs like crows (Hugin and Munin), Jörmungandr (the world serpent), and wolves. These symbols embody core Norse mythological narratives of transformation, cosmic interconnectedness, and primal strength, perfectly aligning with the studio's thematic interests and branding approach.

Iteration #2
Iteration #1
In the initial design, you emphasized the crows' narrative by depicting them with arrows, symbolizing their immortality, and featuring the Norse compass on both sleeves. Following feedback from Brandon Wilson, the studio owner, you decided to modify the artwork to avoid portraying the crows as harmed, instead focusing on representing strength and resilience through the imagery.

REFINMENTS
During the creation of the final product, I developed four symbols for the Longhouse that they have since used in their branding and promotional material. These symbols include the crow silhouette, the detailed crow, the branches silhouette, and the Norse compass. When refining my final design for the studio, I found that the most productive aspect of the process was communication. Throughout the process, I made sure to consistently keep the client updated to ensure they had the opportunity to provide feedback. This allowed me to make adjustments and ensure the final design aligned with their vision.
